Durham Coffee Roasters Review
Nestled in the heart of County Durham.
Durham Coffee thrives as a family-owned coffee roastery.
Founders Bernhard and Carina, who spent their formative years in Austria & Germany amidst a rich coffee culture that treasures a freshly brewed filter coffee, brought a touch of Austrian coffee essence to County Durham by establishing Kaffeehaus Amadeus in Lanchester in 2013.
With a variety of unique origin beans on offer, their mission was clear: to educate and introduce the North-East to the wonders of specialty coffee, particularly the taste of freshly filtered V60 coffee.
A decade on, the father-daughter duo remains undiminished. They ardently champion ethically sourced premium coffee from their Durham roastery.
By roasting and distributing specialty beans from diverse global origins across the UK, they aim to highlight the rich tapestry of flavours inherent to the specialty coffee sector.
Beyond brewing excellence, Durham Coffee aspires to make specialty coffee more accessible through its educational initiatives. They also yearn to tether individuals to the North-East's legacy with their heritage range of coffees, inviting everyone to pause, relish, and immerse in the flavour of the moment.

The Origin
The Rachel Parsons coffee from Durham Coffee Roasters originates from the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala.
In Guatemala, coffee has long been a male-dominate industry and gender equality remains a challenge.
It is still unfortunately very difficult for women in Guatemala to compete and thrive in the coffee world. However, produced exclusively by female farmers, La Morena is a Volcafé Way coffee aiming to change this.
La Morena is a project coffee for gender equality and showcases the work of 22 women farmers across Guatemala.
La Morena a coffee from Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala‘s three non-volcanic regions, and also the highest and driest one, making it one of the best to grow coffee.
Since they joined the program ran by Durham’s green bean suppliers, the farmers have increased the quality of their coffee, increased their yields, and, as a consequence, started earning more. In teaching them best practices, their farms are turning out excellent coffee and becoming viable businesses.
