Hario Solo Portable Electric Coffee Grinder (Tom’s Review)
I’ve been taking the Hario Electro Solo Portable Electric Grinder for spin over the last month and if you want to save yourself a little bit of elbow grease while out and about it may be your ticket.
Featuring a compact, minimalist design and a built-in electric motor, the "Electro Solo" allows for easy and consistent coffee grinding.
The design is pretty simple, there is an allen key socket at one end of the ‘stick’ that fits on top of your favourite manual coffee grinder.
The Hario Electro Solo in My Opinioin
Simply push the button and almost like an electric screwdriver the Electro Solo effortlessly grinds the coffee without the need for a workout.
The package comes equipped with a number of fittings for various grinders like the Hario Mini Mill, but you’ll have to purchase extra fittings for manual grinders such as the Comandante C40.
It has a mini USB charger that takes an hour or so to top up and lasts around 40-50 grinds. Although the battery light does decrease during grinds it then returns to the correct battery levels afterwards.
It’s fairly lightweight and pretty compact - I travelled with it a couple of times and left the handle of the coffee grinder at home so overall it didn’t take up much more space.
It’s not for everyone as I know that some people (like myself occasionally) are purists and like to feel like they’ve deserved the coffee post manual-grind workout. But It certainly does make it a lot easier and if you’re using a manual coffee grinder all the time then maybe it’s time to give your grinding arm a rest.
