I’ve made sure that the drinks are relatively easily made at home, using ingredients you might already have in your holiday pantry otherwise swap out for something you have.
Some are perfect for cozy mornings, others make delightful after-dinner treats, and a few can even double as impressive party beverages.
Hot Christmas Coffee Recipes
Get those Christmas smells circulating round the house and taste the warming festive flavours with these Christmas coffee recipes.
Spiced Orange Filter Coffee
A coffee that will deliver all sorts of nostalgia. Whether it’s a Terry’s Chocolate Orange or a clementine in your stocking, you’ll certainly feel all festive inside.
I like to use a medium dark coffee for this and it does work well with most brew methods.
Ingredients:
Medium roast coffee
Zest of 1 orange
1 cinnamon sticks
2 whole star anise
3 whole cloves
Orange peel for garnish
Instructions:
Add orange zest and spices to your coffee grounds before brewing.
Brew coffee using your preferred method.
Strain into mugs if using a French press or pour-over method.
Garnish with a fresh orange peel and cinnamon stick.
Gingerbread Latte
Well you can’t get much more Christmassy than gingerbread.
Ingredients:
Double shot espresso (or 1/2 cup strong brewed mokapot coffee)
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons gingerbread syrup (recipe below)
Whipped cream
1 crushed gingerbread cookie
Pinch of ground cinnamon
For the Gingerbread Syrup:
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons molasses
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions:
Make the syrup: Combine all syrup ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container.
Steam milk until frothy using a milk frother or steam wand.
Brew espresso or strong coffee into a large mug.
Add gingerbread syrup and stir to combine.
Pour in steamed milk, holding back the foam with a spoon or carefully pouring.
Top with foam, crushed gingerbread cookie, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Cold Christmas Coffee Recipes
Although this time of year lends itself to warmer drinks, there’s still a huge (getting larger each year) amount of people who prefer their coffee cold.
Affogato Coffee Frappe
A collab between Italy and Greece or desert and coffee. Either way, this one is a crowd pleaser.
Ingredients:
1 cup cold brew coffee
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
2 tablespoons hazelnut syrup
4-5 shortbread cookies/biscuits, crushed
Whipped cream
Extra cookie crumbs for garnish
Ice
Instructions:
In a blender, combine cold brew coffee, ice cream, hazelnut syrup, and ice.
Add half the crushed cookies/biscuits.
Blend until smooth and creamy.
Pour into a tall glass.
Top with whipped cream.
Sprinkle remaining cookie crumbs on top.
Alcoholic Christmas Coffee Recipes
There’s definitely more than a few occasions during the Christmas break that straddle time for a coffee and time for a drink.
Irish Coffee with a Christmas Twist
An Irish coffee goes way back and although there are now lots of other famous alcoholic coffee drinks I dare to say it could be the OG.
Ingredients:
1 cup strong hot coffee*
1.5 oz Irish whiskey
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Whipped cream
2 tablespoons crushed pecans
Caramel sauce
Pinch of sea salt
* Using a Mokapot or Espresso ideally
Instructions:
Warm a glass mug with hot water, then empty.
Add brown sugar to the mug.
Pour in hot coffee and stir until sugar dissolves.
Add whiskey.
Layer whipped cream on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon.
Drizzle with caramel sauce.
Sprinkle with crushed pecans and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
