Honduran coffee beans are becoming increasingly popular and sought after in the industry.

A Central American country bordering 3 other coffee producing countries, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua the North has a vast stretch of coastline.

I personally haven’t had the opportunity to visit Honduras yet. Although I have visited its neighbour to the North and a few further South in the continent it’s high on my list.

I have however experienced lots of coffee from this region over the last few years and I have seen a significant increase in the amount of Honduran coffee beans on offer in the UK.

Honduran Coffee Industry

As a relatively recent entrant to the coffee industry, Honduras has emerged as the largest coffee producer in Central America and now produces some of the highest quality coffee in the Americas.

The country's ideal location and terroir make it perfect for coffee cultivation, which stands as its second-largest export.

More than 100,000 families are engaged in coffee production, and thanks to government investments in infrastructure and education on processing techniques, the coffee industry is thriving.

However, the notorious leaf rust severely impacted Honduras in 2012, damaging many crops. Additionally, the substantial rainfall poses significant challenges for drying the coffee.

Honduran Coffee Taste

The taste profiles of Honduran coffee are quite similar to those of Guatemalan coffees, offering a diverse range of flavours.

In the northern forested region of Agalta, you'll find darker, nutty, and caramel notes, while the Montecillos region is renowned for its citric flavours and juicy acidity.
