Sage Bambino

The Sage Bambino is what happens when Sage strips everything back to what actually matters. No built-in grinder, no touchscreen, no frills. Just a seriously capable little espresso machine that fits into a 195mm wide gap on your counter and produces coffee that punches well above its price point.

Do not let the size fool you. The Bambino runs the same ThermoJet heating system as Sage’s bigger machines, hitting extraction temperature in three seconds. The 54mm portafilter takes a proper 19g dose, the PID temperature control keeps your brew water accurate throughout the shot, and the steam wand produces real microfoam rather than the airy froth you get from cheaper machines.

What makes the Sage Bambino an interesting buy is who it suits. If you already own a decent standalone grinder, or you are happy to buy one separately, this is the machine that completes a genuinely excellent home setup without spending Barista Pro money. Pair it with a good burr grinder and the quality ceiling is surprisingly high.

The trade-off is that you are doing the grinding yourself. That is a feature as much as a limitation. It means you have full control over the grind, which is where most of the flavour actually lives, and it keeps the machine compact enough to live comfortably on almost any kitchen counter.

If your mornings involve a flat white before work and you want to make one properly at home, the Sage Bambino is the most sensible place to start.

Best for: Anyone stepping up from a pod machine or looking for a compact machine to pair with an existing grinder.

Not ideal for: Anyone who wants grinding and brewing in a single unit. For that, look at the Sage Barista Express or Barista Pro.
