About Souter Bros Coffee Roasters

Souter Bros is a specialty coffee roaster based in London, run by brothers Dan and Stu Souter. Stu’s connection with coffee goes back to his teenage years, when he first started visiting farms in Brazil, and the pair have been roasting properly since 2020.

Their approach is refreshingly simple. They buy directly from family farms they know personally, take the time to understand how each harvest is grown and processed, and only sell coffee they would happily drink themselves. That currently means coffees from places like Mogiana in Brazil, Huila in Colombia, Tambopata in Peru and San Juan del Río Coco in Nicaragua.

Everything is roasted to order in small batches at their London roastery and sent out within a couple of days of roasting. In 2026 their Nicaragua picked up two stars at the Great Taste Awards, with their Peru earning one star.

Coffee Origin

The Nicaragua coffee from Souter Bros Coffee Roasters originates from the Madriz region of Nicaragua.

This coffee comes from smallholder families in Madriz, high in the northern hills of Nicaragua around San Juan del Río Coco. Each family looks after a small plot, typically under three hectares, and grows its coffee in the shade of native trees at up to 1,800 metres. The soils here are volcanic and fed by the local river, and the tree cover slows the cherries as they ripen, giving the flavours more time to develop.

Harvest runs from December to March, after which the coffee is dried in the sun on raised beds. Souter Bros source it directly and roast it in small batches in London, and in 2026 it picked up two stars at the Great Taste Awards. Look out for cocoa and roasted hazelnut alongside a bright citrus edge, with vanilla and caramel sweetness and a creamy, rounded body.
