About Cast Iron Coffee Roasters Review – Decaf

Cast Iron Coffee Roasters hail from West Sussex. The vision was a family business focused squarely on producing the best quality speciality coffee possible. The seasonal coffee that Cast Iron showcase is hand roasted in their workshop. Their roasting philosophy is very simple; showcase the bean in the best possible light and be as true as possible to its origins. Cast Iron will only ever supply coffee they love to drink theirselves, be that a rich chocolately espresso or a light fruity complex filter. Delicious coffee starts at the source of the plant and is picked, washed and transported with care. Knowing the origin of their coffee and that it is responsibly sourced is of vital importance to Cast Iron. It often costs more this way but this ultimately means a sustainable source of production AND better-tasting coffee. Coffee legend Dom Pulleyn is Cast Iron’s coffee roaster and has a wealth of knowledge of the specialty coffee industry. Find your local roaster on our Independent Coffee Roasters Map.

Coffee Origin

The Excelso Decaf coffee from Cast Iron Coffee Roasters originates from Colombia.

With Colombian coffees, Excelso is one of the grading term used to specify the coffee bean size and the uniformity of size selection helps increase cup quality and flavour. Sourced from a number of cooperatives, the ripe cherries are picked and sorted for quality.

They then enter the washing process to remove skin and pulp before sitting in fermentation tanks for up to 14 hours. Next the beans are dried outdoors on patios until the moisture content reduces to 10-12%. Finally, they are sent to Swiss Water for the natural decaffeination process to take place.
