Wild Highlands Coffee | Ancient | Various Origins
Situated in Loch Lomand, one of the Scotlands most scenic and beautiful areas, Wild highlands coffee are a family-run business which aims to share their passion for the great outdoors with a range of bespoke, quality products like coffee and honey.
They roast three warming blends, Modern, Hunting and Ancient all of which have a focus on full flavour and versatility.
The Ancient coffee that I received from Wild highlands was a coffee full of those big bolshy flavours - perfect for an early start on a cold morning. The fragrance of the unground coffee was warm and packed with spices, pepper and an undertone of maple syrup.
Once brewed the bold flavours of the aroma become even more pronounced and leave you with a good idea of what is next.
The brew was strong at the front of each sip, it’s dark chocolate and spiced flavours tussle for attention. Notes of cinnamon and anise stick around at the end for a pleasant finish to the cup. The coffee cools and the spices smooth out with the dark chocolate flavours evolving into a milk chocolate aftertaste.
The coffee is full in body and in flavour, the buttery and heavy mouthfeel make it a great brew to pack into that thermos flask on a weekend hike.
Brewed as a V60, Aeropress and Stovetop, with the latter prevailing as the best cup. The rich flavour profiles of the Ancient coffee complemented the typically full-bodied coffee an italian espresso maker produces.
